Security and Privacy for Microsoft Office 2010 Users by Mitch Tulloch is a book I’ve been trying to find for years. Throughout my time as a technical writer, I’ve bumped into some minor to major security and privacy issues related to the development and distribution of Microsoft Office documents including some that caused a measure of embarrassment to people. By extension of my work as a technical writer, I’ve had to give both formal and one-on-one training about some of the topics in this book and can tell you it is easy to say it’s just Microsoft Office until something you don’t want to leak out gets out in one of your documents. read more »

Often Microsoft Office suffers from a lack of credit (and support) despite the fact that it is the underpinnings to many a business process. Tweaking Your Outlook 2010 Setup

A nonscientific survey of my local job listings show that Office 2010 is showing up on more corporate desktops and with that many new users are trying to figure out how to get the most out of Outlook 2010. With every Office release, Microsoft shows a little extra love to one application and Outlook definitely saw some product management and developer love in this go around.

I’ve also come to believe that Microsoft Outlook and not spreadsheets is what really runs projects and even businesses so I want to offer up some Outlook setup advice in this post. These are items that are typically overlooked in stock implementations but can save you embarrassment and make you a bit more productive.

My Search for the “Perfect” Mobile Office Suite

Docstogo By nature of my work, I spend time on client sites – some of which are secure – meaning I am often times without a personal laptop computer for all or a portion of my workday. The time I spend onsite has driven my interest into Office applications that work on my iPhone (and now my iPad too).

It’s not that I expect a full-blown Office productivity suite either because I am much more interested in these applications for when I am taking a break or going to lunch and want to give something I am writing a quick read in hopes of seeing it in a different light.
